The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)’s Sustainability and Innovation Centre recently hosted a high-level delegation from Brazil, comprising governors and vice-governors from the country’s northeastern states. The visit aimed to explore Dubai’s pioneering efforts in clean and renewable energy, sustainability initiatives, and cutting-edge energy transition projects.
The Brazilian officials were given an in-depth presentation on DEWA’s flagship projects, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park — the largest single-site solar park in the world operating under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. The visitors also learned about the Green Hydrogen Project, a regional first in producing hydrogen using solar power, and the EV Green Charger initiative, which introduced the first public electric vehicle charging network in the Middle East and North Africa.
Dr. Aaesha Alnuaimi, Director of the Sustainability and Innovation Centre, led the briefing, outlining how DEWA’s initiatives align with national strategies such as the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategy, the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.
DEWA emphasised the Centre’s role as a global platform that fosters public-private partnerships, encourages entrepreneurship, and promotes investment in advanced clean technologies. These efforts aim to accelerate the global energy transition while solidifying the UAE’s position as a leader in shaping the future of energy and water.
The Brazilian delegation commended DEWA’s innovation-led approach to sustainability and described the utility’s projects as global benchmarks for integrating advanced technology and environmental responsibility to achieve a low-carbon future.
