Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) has completed the auction for its standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project with a total capacity of 125 MW / 500 MWh. The auction was conducted under a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process to promote the development of energy storage infrastructure in the state. The was initially floated in March 2025 and invited bids for the development of a 500 MWh standalone BESS. A minimum project size of 20 MWh was required for participation.

A total of six companies emerged as winners in the auction. Barbrik Projects secured the largest share with 37.5 MW / 150 MWh. Prostarm Info Systems was awarded 30 MW / 120 MWh, while Hindustan Thermal Project (Hindustan Power) also secured the same capacity of 30 MW / 120 MWh. Suryam International and Kundan Green Energy each won a capacity of 10 MW / 40 MWh. Saatvik Green Energy was awarded 7.5 MW / 30 MWh. Altogether, these projects will contribute to the planned total capacity of 125 MW / 500 MWh.

The projects were awarded at a fixed tariff of ₹4.44 lakh per MW per month, applicable across all the winning developers. The uniform tariff indicates a competitive bidding outcome and reflects the growing interest and confidence in the BESS sector. The awarded companies are expected to set up their respective storage capacities as per the terms and conditions of the tender.

This BESS project marks a significant step towards strengthening the energy infrastructure in Bihar. By adding battery storage capacity, the state aims to improve grid stability, enhance power quality, and manage renewable energy integration more efficiently. The deployment of 500 MWh of energy storage will support better load management and reduce reliance on conventional energy sources during peak demand periods.

The completion of the auction is seen as a positive move for the region’s power sector and is expected to attract more investments in battery storage projects in the future. With increasing focus on renewable energy and energy storage, such initiatives are critical for ensuring energy reliability and sustainability. BSPGCL’s successful auction process also showcases the growing role of state utilities in driving the adoption of advanced energy technologies.
