US energy technology company Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) has received initial approval to begin work on a carbon capture system for an existing US power plant.
B&W will supply its SolveBright system capable of capturing and storing more than 550,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, reducing the plant’s carbon footprint.
The B&W system uses an advanced specialty solvent along with commodity solvents to offer operational flexibility and potential cost savings for the plant owner.
The news is ahead of an expected $80m full contract, expected to be finalised by March 2026.
