Canada’s Charbone has secured a long-term hydrogen supply contract with Hone, a mobile hydrogen power solutions provider for the film and entertainment industry.
Under the deal, Charbone will supply hydrogen for Hone’s 165kW trailer-mounted hydrogen internal combustion engine (ICE) generators, which serve as a lower-emission alternative to diesel gensets and have already been deployed on multiple film productions.
The agreement builds on an initial hydrogen supply deal announced in January, and further validates green hydrogen as an energy source for on-set power generation.
According to the companies, each generator operating day can displace more than 1.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) compared with diesel-powered alternatives.
Dave Gagnon, CEO of Charbone, said the agreement exemplifies the entertainment industry’s integration of the molecule.
“Clean hydrogen is proving its value in some of the most demanding operational environments, where reliability, safety, and performance are non-negotiable,” he added.
The announcement adds to a growing number of hydrogen-powered film and television deployments, including GeoPura’s powering of numerous operations and France’s EoDev powering a nighttime Netflix shoot with its fuel cell generator.
Charbone its expansion beyond green hydrogen into industrial gases, having brought its project online in Quebec last December.
Its 2026–2030 strategic plan targets supply opportunities across sectors, including semiconductors, data centres, advanced pharmaceuticals, aerospace, and defence technologies.
Last month, it signed a three-year as part of its expansion into industrial gas production and distribution, and opened its in Albany, New York.
