The European chemical sector is enduring one of its worst downturns in decades, but the CEO of industrial gas major Linde expects a rebound at some point, based on the outlook of its customers.
“I think the chemical industry … is probably the most impacted at this point in time,” said Sanjiv Lamba, CEO of Linde in a recent earnings call. “And … all perspectives on the industry tend to be quite negative.”
“I’m not suggesting it’s happening tomorrow [or] any time soon but I do expect that cycle to turn,” he added. “From many of our customers, [there is an expectation that] there will be a fundamental shift back to a point where you will see the chemical industry come back.”
