CK Power Took A Major Step Towards Global Clean Energy Adoption By Expanding RECs Operations Worldwide

CK Power Public Company Limited, one of Southeast Asia’s leading renewable electricity producers, is expanding its Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) business to support the global shift to clean energy and sustainability goals. This initiative helps businesses reduce greenhouse gas emissions and encourages wider use of renewable energy. In 2024, CKPower took a step forward by exploring RECs opportunities from its Xayaburi run-of-river hydropower plant in Lao PDR. The company partnered with Mekha V Company Limited (a PTT Public Company Limited subsidiary) to assess RECs integration through the ReAcc platform, helping multinational companies incorporate clean energy into their supply chains.

Mr. Thanawat Trivisvavet, Managing Director, CK Power Public Company Limited, said in a statement, “RECs are an important tool for businesses to demonstrate their use of renewable energy and meet science-based emissions reduction targets. They enable companies to offset carbon footprints and achieve their sustainability goals with confidence. Since 2022, CKPower has been actively involved in RECs trading through its subsidiary, Bangkhenchai Company Limited (BKC), registering renewable energy projects on trading platforms in partnership with Innopower Company Limited, a subsidiary of EGAT.”

He further added, “To date, CKPower has delivered over 39,660.46 RECs to clients committed to decarbonizing their operations. Renewable energy is the foundation of a sustainable future. Through our RECs initiatives and clean energy projects, we empower companies around the world to fulfill their sustainability commitments while fostering a resilient energy ecosystem.”

CKPower is also growing its solar energy capacity. In collaboration with Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM), it is developing 13 MW of new solar projects, with the first set to begin operations in early 2025. Additionally, its subsidiary BKC signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) under the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) program for a 6 MW solar project, expected to be operational by 2027. With a goal to have over 95% of its energy portfolio sourced from renewables by 2043, CKPower is also working toward net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 through innovation, energy efficiency, and sustainability efforts.
