Coal India Secures LOA for 600 MW Solar Power Project at Jalaun Solar Park in Uttar Pradesh

Coal India Limited (CIL) has received a Letter of Award (LOA) from Bundelkhand Saur Urja Limited (BSUL) for the development of a 600 MW solar power project at Jalaun Solar Park in Uttar Pradesh. The project comprises two 300 MW solar plants and marks another step in the state-owned miner’s expansion into renewable energy.

According to a regulatory filing submitted to the stock exchanges, the project has been awarded at a tariff of ₹2.73 per kWh and carries an estimated project cost of ₹2,831.11 crore. The solar project is scheduled to be completed within 18 months from the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

As part of the award conditions, Coal India will be required to submit the necessary documentation outlined in the Letter of Award before executing the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Implementation Support Agreement (ISA) and Land Right User Agreement (LRUA). The company will also be required to pay the prescribed upfront solar park development charges before signing the ISA.

The company stated that the contract has been awarded by Bundelkhand Saur Urja Limited, a domestic entity, and confirmed that the transaction does not involve any promoter or related-party interest.

The award underscores Coal India’s ongoing efforts to diversify its energy portfolio beyond coal by investing in large-scale renewable energy projects. The 600 MW solar installation at Jalaun Solar Park is expected to contribute significantly to clean power generation in Uttar Pradesh while supporting India’s broader renewable energy capacity expansion goals.
