Crossboundary Energy Pledges US$1B Renewable Power Push To Boost Reliable Energy For African Businesses By 2030

CrossBoundary Energy has announced a major commitment to support Africa’s clean energy transition by planning to have US$1 billion worth of renewable energy projects operating and under construction by 2030. This pledge was made at the Global Citizen NOW conference, held ahead of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, where leading businesses and investors gathered to share bold commitments for development and sustainability. The company said that this target includes both its current portfolio, which is already under construction or awarded, as well as upcoming renewable energy projects focused on supplying power to private businesses across the African continent.

The announcement highlights the growing role of private sector investment in solving Africa’s biggest commercial and industrial challenge: access to reliable electricity. CrossBoundary Energy’s Chief Regulatory Officer, Tessa Lee, confirmed on stage that the company will participate in Global Citizen’s impact tracking and monitoring efforts, ensuring follow-up on progress until the commitment is completed.

Tessa Lee emphasized that the pledge is not just an intention but a scale-up of proven success in difficult markets where CrossBoundary Energy already operates renewable power projects. She noted that strong partner interest and additional capital are enabling the company to pursue this ambitious goal. According to her, unlocking US$1 billion in renewable infrastructure will directly support African businesses by addressing the major constraint of unreliable power supply. The commitment reflects confidence in Africa’s energy future and demonstrates how private investment can accelerate economic growth, sustainability, and development across the region.
