Netherlands-based direct air capture (DAC) specialist Skytree has produced liquid carbon dioxide that meets beverage-grade standards during tests at its Almere, Flevoland facility and avoids the losses common with some DAC systems.
The test saw the company use its Stratus Alpha tech to capture CO2 at a gas purity of around 98% directly from the atmosphere. This captured gas was then liquefied at CO2 purity levels of 99.98% – meeting the minimum levels for CO2 to be considered beverage-grade.
By integrating its capture technology with a liquefaction unit, Skytree has said that it can avoid losses incurred during the capture-to-liquefaction process.
