An ambitious $30bn regeneration of Gaza would see a strong emphasis on digital and energy infrastructure, in plans unveiled at the Davos conference.
A new port and airport are also on the drawing board alongside commercial zones and business districts. A Board of Peace, supported by 19 countries, will endeavour to turn the plans into reality – providing the current wavering ceasefire evolves into a lasting peace.
The rebuilding of the 41km-strip would take place in phases, starting with Rafah in the south and moving up through Khan Younis to Gaza City.
The transformation would be stark, with coastal areas repurposed into high-rise skyscrapers and hotels for tourism.
