Deep Sky to install Airbus DAC unit at Alberta site

Canadian carbon removal company Deep Sky will install direct air capture technology from global aerospace and defence company Airbus at its main site, Deep Sky Alpha, in Innisfail, Alberta.

The unit has capacity to remove 250 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year and is derived from Airbus’ life-support systems on the International Space Station.

Alex Petre, CEO of Deep Sky, said, “In order for carbon dioxide removal to have an impact, we need to develop technologies that can rapidly scale to remove billions of tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere.”

The Airbus module uses a solid amine filter to capture CO2. When heated, the filter releases concentrated CO2 and sends CO2-reduced air back into the atmosphere.
