Direct air capture specialist NEG8 Carbon has partnered with engineering consultancy Prochem Engineering to carry out an engineering study for what is expected to be Ireland’s first full-scale direct air capture facility.
The study will define the specifications for a 50 tonnes-per-year DAC system to be developed at NEG8 Carbon’s headquarters in Waterford. The project will also serve as the first full module built using NEG8’s proprietary DAC technology.
Founded in 2014 as a spin-out from carbon capture research at Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin, NEG8 Carbon is developing an electrostatic-based DAC system designed to capture carbon dioxide directly from ambient air.
Captured CO2 can be permanently stored or utilised in downstream applications, including synthetic fuels.
