Netherlands LNG operator EemsEnergyTerminal and Belgian shipping group Exmar are planning to convert a large LNG carrier into a floating storage and regasification (FSRU) import terminal at Eemshaven.
The proposal would extend operations at the northern Netherlands port beyond September 2027, when the original floating LNG terminal contract is due to expire. Currently the terminal operates as a joint venture between Gasunie and Vopak.
Under the new plans, the terminal is expected to remain operational until at least 2036, offering storage capacity of around 190,000 cubic metres of LNG.
It would support the continued diversification of supply sources in Europe and strengthen the continent’s energy security.
