The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) has signed a deal with US-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) specialist New Fortress Energy to lease a second floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).
FSRU terminals are the interface between LNG carriers and the local gas supply infrastructure.
With a storage capacity of 160,000 cubic meters of LNG and a regasification capacity of up to 750 million cubic feet per day, the supply FSRU from New Fortress Energy will receive, store, re-gasify, and deliver LNG to the national gas grid.
EGAS says the effort will bolster Egypt’s natural gas infrastructure and contribute to the stability and sustainability of gas supplies. According to estimates in the Energy’s Institutes 2024 Statistical Review of World Energy, Egypt exported around 173 billion cubic feet of LNG in 2023.
