The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) outlined its long-term roadmap for a carbon-neutral energy future during the IEEE PES GTD Asia 2025 summit held in Bangkok.
During the event, EGAT presented key initiatives focused on accelerating Thailand’s clean energy transition, including the expansion of large-scale floating solar projects across major reservoirs, deployment of battery energy storage systems (BESS), and modernisation of the national grid.
EGAT also emphasised the role of emerging technologies such as hydrogen power and small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) in supporting future power security and flexibility.
As part of its decarbonisation strategy, EGAT is developing new policy mechanisms such as green tariffs and renewable power purchase agreements (PPAs) to enable businesses to directly source electricity from clean energy projects.
The organisation says these measures align with Thailand’s national target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and position the country to become a regional leader in clean-energy innovation.
