Europe is preparing for its biggest trade deal with India, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told delegates attending Davos 2026 today.
The President, buoyed by the EU’s recent Mercosur South American free trade agreement – which was 25 years in the making – will visit India after the conference in the Swiss Alps.
“It will be a deal involving a market of 2 billion people, accounting for almost a quarter of global GDP, and provide Europe with a first-mover advantage with one of the world’s fastest growing and most dynamic continents,” she said.
