Project Greensand’s Carbon Destroyer 1 vessel is receiving its final outfitting ahead of entering service on the Danish North Sea.
The distinctive-looking narrow ship, which can hold up to 5,000 tonnes of liquefied carbon dioxide, recently sailed from the shipbuilding yard of Royal Niestern Sander to the Dutch port of Delfzijl.
Next the vessel will be prepared for carbon capture and storage.
Various specialised systems and equipment will be installed, including CO2 storage tanks and retractable thrusters, which will enable safe transport of captured CO2 from industrial emitters to permanent storage facilities under Project Greensand led by energy outfit Ineos Energy.
