FirstEnergy announced plans to bring 70 megawatts of utility-scale solar and a 1,200-megawatt combined-cycle natural gas plant to West Virginia, reinforcing its commitment to reliable, diversified, and locally sourced energy for its customers. According to FirstEnergy Board Chair, President, and CEO Brian X. Tierney, the projects are expected to generate major economic benefits, including more than 3,260 construction jobs and $68 million in state and local tax revenue. The announcement was made at an event held at Harrison Power Station, attended by West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey, along with local officials, business leaders, and employees.

“This planned generation is a promise – a promise to keep energy costs manageable, to ensure reliability during peak demand and to support local investment and job creation,” he said. “It’s a promise to West Virginia families, workers and industries that FirstEnergy is here for the long haul.”
