Microsoft is set to announce new data centre investments in the US later this week, according to CEO Satya Nadella.
He made the comments while promoting the software giant’s $30bn investment in UK AI and cloud infrastructure over the next four years.
In a week in which technology investment has soared, with as part of a £5bn investment, the race to develop AI has once again shone the light on energy supply and grid sustainability, and the role that industrial gas can play in delivering computing power and in decarbonisation. Electricity demand from data centres worldwide to around 945 terawatt-hours, according to the International Energy Agency.
The new investment coincides with the visit of President Trump to the UK and launch of the first UK–US tech agreement covering technology, energy and healthcare.
