GE Vernova To Supply Extra High-Voltage Transformers And Shunt Reactors For India’s Renewable Energy Corridors

GE Vernova Inc. announced today that it has been selected by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) to supply more than 70 extra high-voltage transformers and shunt reactors for important power transmission projects across India. The equipment, which falls under the 765 kV class, will play a crucial role in supporting transmission infrastructure for renewable energy evacuation projects. These projects are part of India’s Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework, which aims to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the country’s power sector.

The order has been placed through GE Vernova T&D India Limited, which is the listed entity of GE Vernova’s Electrification business in India. Under the contract, GE Vernova will be responsible for the complete scope of supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of the equipment. The manufacturing of the transformers and reactors will take place at GE Vernova’s dedicated power transformer facility located in Vadodara, Gujarat. Delivery of the equipment is scheduled to begin in 2026 and continue through to the end of 2027.

Ruchir Mayank, Commercial Leader of GE Vernova’s Power Transmission business in India, said in a statement, “This is one of the largest order intakes for GE Vernova’s Electrification segment in India and a significant milestone for our Vadodara facility. We are proud to contribute to India’s grid modernization and renewable energy expansion, and we thank POWERGRID for their continued trust in our technology and execution capabilities.”

Sandeep Zanzaria, Managing Director and CEO of GE Vernova T&D India Limited, stated, “These orders reflect the critical role GE Vernova is playing in advancing India’s transmission infrastructure to support global renewable energy goals. As a listed entity in India, we are proud to contribute to national priorities by delivering extra high-voltage technologies that enable a more resilient power system.”

POWERGRID, India’s largest electric power transmission utility, plays a key role in the integration of renewable energy into the national grid. The orders placed with GE Vernova are part of a bulk procurement strategy aimed at building high-capacity renewable energy transmission corridors in several states, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. These regions are critical for India’s renewable energy goals, and the new equipment will help ensure efficient evacuation of power generated from renewable sources.

This initiative reflects GE Vernova’s continued commitment to advancing the global energy transition, especially in emerging markets like India. By enabling large-scale integration of renewable energy into the grid, the project supports efforts to improve energy security, reduce dependency on fossil fuels, and strengthen the overall reliability of the power network.

GE Vernova’s Vadodara facility has been actively involved in the design, manufacturing, and testing of 765 kV class transformers and shunt reactors since 2009. Over the years, the factory has supplied more than 700 such units to power utilities across India, contributing significantly to the stability and performance of the country’s high-voltage transmission infrastructure.
