Google plans carbon-free energy storage with CO2 battery deal

US-based multinational technology firm Google has outlined plans to deploy carbon dioxide battery long-duration energy storage (LDES) technology across the globe, through a partnership with Italian CO2 battery developer Energy Dome.

Under a new commercial agreement, the partners will develop CO2 battery projects in Europe, the US, and the Asia-Pacific region, with the goal of scaling up deployment at a pace to meet Google’s carbon-free energy goals.

Numerous sites and projects have been identified and are currently in development and contracting stages, according to the partners.
