Spain-based HAM Group is rolling out biomethane refuelling across its entire service station network, with bio-liquefied natural gas (LNG) and/or bio-compressed natural gas (CNG) set to be available at all sites during May.
The move completes a rollout first announced at the end of 2025 and forms part of the company’s strategy to expand access to renewable fuels for transport.
Customers across the network will be able to refuel using biomethane without requiring modifications to vehicles or refuelling processes.
HAM said the use of bioLNG and bioCNG offers a practical route to emissions reduction for professional transport fleets, combining compatibility with existing infrastructure and immediate deployment across current gas-powered vehicles.
The company operates an extensive refuelling network spanning Spain and wider Europe, with a growing presence in South America. Its footprint includes more than 140 stations across the group, alongside regional operations such as HAM Italia, which itself has developed a network of over 40 stations.
HAM has also been expanding geographically. In 2024, it entered the Italian market with its first refuelling station in La Spezia, marking a step into mobile and transportable infrastructure solutions.
Beyond Europe, the company has strengthened its position in South America through investments such as a 40% stake in Limagas Movilidad in , alongside plans to develop LNG and CNG infrastructure in the region and a bioLNG plant in Chile.
The latest biomethane rollout aligns with a broader push to decarbonise road transport, particularly in heavy-duty and long-distance segments where alternatives remain limited.
HAM added that biomethane, produced from organic waste streams, supports a circular economy model while enabling more sustainable mobility across its customer base.
Momentum behind the fuel is also building among end-users. Last month, UK retailer Marks & Spencer to scale its biomethane-powered heavy goods vehicle fleet through a mobile refuelling agreement with ReFuels NV.
The deal will support more than 210 bioCNG trucks currently in operation, with the fleet expected to exceed 300 vehicles by March 2027.
“Biomethane is a cost-efficient, domestic here-and-now solution to decarbonise road transport, and our mobile refuelling stations help large fleets decarbonise quickly,” said Philip Fjeld, CEO and Co-Founder of ReFuels.
