Kenyan healthcare solutions provider Hewatele is set to open a new liquid oxygen production facility in Kenya. The project is expected to ease persistent medical oxygen shortages and reduce the country’s reliance on imports.
According to Kenyan news outlet Citizen Digital, the plant is being developed at Tatu Industrial Park in Tatu City and is scheduled for completion by the end of the first quarter of 2026. Once operational, it is expected to become Kenya’s first domestic liquid oxygen production facility.
The plant is designed to produce up to 20 tonnes of liquid oxygen per day and is expected to meet more than half of national medical oxygen demand.
Imported liquid oxygen currently accounts for around three-quarters of supply, with delivery lead times of up to six weeks, leaving hospitals exposed to periodic shortages.
