International renewable energy developer ib vogt has reached financial close and commenced construction on a 29.99MW solar project in Sungei Petani, Kedah, under Malaysia’s Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP). The project, developed by ib vogt APAC, marks the first known CGPP initiative to break ground, with hyperscale data centre specialist AirTrunk serving as the off-taker under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Designed to enhance solar energy capture, the facility will incorporate bi-facial modules and a single-axis tracking system. Once operational, it is expected to prevent approximately 55,380 tons of CO2 emissions annually, contributing to Malaysia’s clean energy transition.

“Sourcing renewable energy is critical to achieving AirTrunk’s Net Zero commitment. Together with our customers—some of the largest technology companies in the world—we are committed to matching 100% of electricity consumption at our data centres with renewable energy by 2030,” said Joscha Schmitz, Vice President, Energy and Climate at AirTrunk.Schmitz emphasized the significance of the project in supporting the development of new solar capacity, advancing the region’s renewable energy adoption, and serving the data centre sector.David Ludwig, CEO of ib vogt APAC, highlighted the company’s commitment to decarbonization in the digital and global supply chain sectors. “The megatrend of decarbonization of the digital revolution and global supply chains is at the core of our mission and values. We are honored to work with AirTrunk, a leader in the digital revolution, who shares our commitment to the global energy transition,” Ludwig said.

The project is expected to play a key role in Malaysia’s renewable energy ambitions, supporting both corporate sustainability initiatives and national clean energy goals while ensuring a stable supply of renewable power for the future.
