Iberdrola has placed two new solar power plants into commercial operation in Wasco County, Oregon, through its U.S. subsidiary Avangrid. The newly launched facilities, Daybreak Solar with a capacity of 189 MWdc and Bakeoven Solar with 80 MWdc, bring a combined 269 MWdc of additional clean energy at a time when electricity demand is rising across the United States. Both plants are now delivering power to Portland General Electric (PGE), the local utility.

These facilities are part of a state programme designed to increase access to new renewable energy for large municipal, industrial and commercial customers. Companies such as Intel can use the programme to secure supplies of newly generated clean power in a more flexible and competitive way. With these two sites now operating and additional projects moving forward, Avangrid continues to hold its position as the leading energy supplier within this statewide initiative.

The completion of the Daybreak and Bakeoven solar plants provides clear economic benefits for Oregon. Their development has supported local employment and contributed to economic activity in the region. The projects also strengthen Iberdrola’s long-term commitment to the United States, where the company already holds €49.4 billion in assets and plans to invest another €16 billion by 2028.

Across the country, Iberdrola currently supplies nearly 10 million people through its transmission and distribution networks in New York, Maine, Connecticut and Massachusetts. The Group also operates 80 generation facilities nationwide, with a total installed capacity approaching 11,000 MW. These newly commissioned plants add to Iberdrola’s growing U.S. presence and reflect its continued strategy of expanding clean, reliable energy infrastructure to meet the country’s growing demand.
