The International Energy Agency (IEA) brought together 60 senior executives from leading global companies this week to exchange insights on critical energy issues ranging from oil and gas dynamics to mineral supply chains, renewables, and rising electricity demand.
The meeting, held under the IEA’s Energy Business Council (EBC) – the Agency’s key platform for private sector dialogue – aimed to strengthen collaboration between governments and industry to ensure secure, reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy systems.
“Frank and open dialogue between government and the private sector is absolutely crucial to finding solutions to today’s major energy challenges,” said IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol, who chaired the discussions.
The event featured three core sessions:
- Global Energy Markets: Experts presented updates on oil, gas, renewables, and critical minerals. Industry leaders debated oil market prospects, the upcoming wave of new liquefied natural gas (LNG) capacity, and policy measures shaping renewable growth. Discussions also addressed supply chain risks for critical minerals, transparency improvements, recycling, and the role of artificial intelligence in the sector.
- Oil and Gas Decline Rates: The IEA shared findings from its latest report, which revealed an accelerated global decline in oil and gas field output. Participants assessed implications for future supply geography, investment needs, and energy security, while stressing the importance of stronger cooperation between industry and policymakers.
- Future of Electricity in MENA: With power demand in the Middle East and North Africa projected to surge over the next decade, discussions focused on regional risks, investment opportunities in power systems, and measures to boost efficiency and reliability.
The IEA noted that insights from the EBC will contribute to its wider analysis and policy recommendations to help the global energy sector navigate a period of profound transition.
