An occupancy permit has been issued for the Halinga biomethane plant in Estonia, owned by Halinga and part of the Infortar group.
The facility – one of the largest plants in the Baltic state and financed through the EU’s NextGenerationEU recovery fund – will start production once it receives its integrated environmental permit.
The plant’s technical solution was designed by German renewable gas producer EnviTec Anlagenbau.
Ain Hanschmidt, CEO of Infortar, said Estonia is a dairy country and increasingly, a gas-producing country too.
“Expanding renewable gas production would strengthen our energy and food security while helping to address environmental challenges in both rural and urban areas,” he said.
Estonia has identified biogas and biomethane contributing around 16% of the country’s 3 TWh annual gas consumption.
