A new renewable natural gas (RNG) facility has been commissioned in Iowa, with the capacity to process more than 185,000 tonnes of landfill waste each year.
The plant was opened by a consortium consisting of the Waste Commission of Scott County, Linwood Mining and Minerals, and Waga Energy, in partnership with the American Biogas Council.
Waga Energy operates the Scott County RNG plant, which uses the company’s WAGABOX® upgrading technology to produce pipeline-quality gas for injection into the MidAmerican Energy network.
The facility can produce more than 205,000 MMBtu (60 GWh) of RNG annually, avoiding an estimated 15,800 tonnes of carbon emissions.
