Jindal Stainless, India’s largest manufacturer of stainless steel, in collaboration with AB Energia Solutions Pvt. Ltd., a leading provider of clean energy solutions, has successfully installed and commissioned a landmark solar energy project at its manufacturing unit in Jajpur, Odisha. This initiative marks a significant achievement in India’s industrial sustainability efforts, as it becomes the largest captive solar power plant within a single industrial campus in Odisha, with a total installed capacity exceeding 30 MWp.

The project comprises two major components: a 7.324 MWp floating solar power plant and a 23.02 MWp rooftop solar system. The floating solar plant is ingeniously set up on an internal water reservoir within the Jajpur facility, turning previously unused water bodies into productive energy-generating assets. This not only contributes to clean power generation but also helps in reducing water evaporation. The rooftop solar system has been strategically installed across ten industrial roofs at varying heights, ensuring optimal space utilization and maximizing solar energy output.

Together, these systems are expected to generate approximately 44.3 million units of renewable electricity annually. This energy output is equivalent to powering between 12,000 to 15,000 households and will help Jindal Stainless significantly reduce its dependency on conventional grid electricity. Additionally, the initiative will cut down carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 32,208 metric tonnes each year, which is comparable to the environmental benefit of planting approximately 1,288 trees annually.

Mr. Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless, said in a statement, “At Jindal Stainless, we’re accelerating our progress towards achieving our Net Zero goals and investing in sustainable infrastructure through strategic partnerships. The commissioning of Odisha’s largest captive solar energy plant at our Jajpur facility is a major leap in this journey. We are redefining the future of stainless steel manufacturing in India by integrating innovative renewable energy solutions and staying accountable to global sustainability standards.”

Mr Siddharth Bhatia, Managing Director, AB Energia Solutions Pvt. Ltd, stated, “Delivering this landmark project at Jindal Stainless’ Jajpur facility exemplifies AB Energia’s commitment to pioneering sustainable energy solutions. By transforming unused water bodies into productive assets and optimizing rooftop spaces, we are setting new benchmarks for green innovation in India’s industrial sector. By enabling a transition away from fossil fuels and toward renewable sources, projects like this not only drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also enhance operational efficiency, cost stability, and long-term competitiveness for industrial players. As demand for low-carbon ‘green steel’ rises globally, such initiatives position Indian industry at the forefront of sustainable manufacturing, ensuring resilience and relevance in a rapidly evolving market landscape.”

The successful execution of this solar project reflects the engineering expertise of AB Energia Solutions and Jindal Stainless’ firm commitment to sustainability. AB Energia, recognized for its innovation in the solar EPC segment, provides comprehensive and customized clean energy solutions, including floating solar, rooftop, ground-mounted, and carport systems. The company supports India’s goal of reaching 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and helps industrial clients optimize energy use, reduce operational costs, and advance their sustainability goals.

This solar energy installation is an important milestone in Jindal Stainless’ broader environmental strategy. As part of its long-term vision, the company aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. To support this goal, it has committed to investing INR 700 crore over the next five years in various decarbonisation initiatives, underlining its dedication to responsible manufacturing and clean energy adoption.
