MorGen Energy has selected global engineering firm Kent to provide front-end engineering design (FEED) and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for its UK 20MW green hydrogen facility.

The plant – located at a former refinery in Milford Haven, West Wales – is set to deploy two 10 MW modular electrolyser systems from UK-based ITM Power to produce 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year.

It is expected online in 2028 to supply industrial customers across Milford Haven and Port Talbot.

Kent will deliver end-to-end design and EPC, including the installation of the electrolyser and other key equipment for the site that reached in March this year.

The project is supported by the UK government’s Hydrogen Allocation Round 1 (HAR1), which will provide subsidies similar to a contract for difference for 15 years once operational.

This will offer MorGen a government-funded strike price of £241/MWh ($325) – around £9/kg ($12.17) of hydrogen.

The HAR schemes have faced major delays since their launch, with HAR1 developments waiting well over a year from selection to sign subsidy contracts.

Selected projects for HAR2 remain unconfirmed despite a shortlist being revealed last April.

Industry and trade groups have been calling for the government to deliver its updated hydrogen strategy, promised for delivery in late 2025.
