LONGi Solar Europe to Supply 81.66 MW of Hi-MO 9 Modules for Utility-Scale Solar Projects in Greece

LONGi Solar Europe has signed a module supply agreement with FARIA RENEWABLES to deliver 81.66 MW of its Hi-MO 9 solar modules for two utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) projects in the Thessaly region of Greece, supporting the country’s renewable energy expansion.

Under the agreement, LONGi will supply its high-efficiency modules for the 45.51 MW Athamas project in Almyros and the 36.15 MW Mykonos project in Farsala. Together, the projects will deploy 125,280 Hi-MO 9 modules featuring LONGi’s HPBC 2.0 back contact technology, designed to improve energy yields, maximise land utilisation, and reduce the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE).

FARIA RENEWABLES will serve as the developer, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, and owner of both solar plants.

The Athamas project, FARIA RENEWABLES’ largest photovoltaic development to date, will utilise a hybrid design comprising 35% fixed-tilt structures and 65% single-axis tracking systems to optimise power generation. The facility will be connected to Greece’s transmission grid at 150 kV through two medium-voltage transmission lines and a dedicated high-voltage substation.

Construction of the Athamas solar plant is scheduled to begin in November 2025, with grid connection expected by July 2026. The Mykonos project is planned to commence construction in February 2026 and is scheduled to enter commercial operation by June 2027.

Once operational, the Athamas facility alone is expected to generate approximately 80,000 MWh of clean electricity annually, enough to supply around 16,000 households, while avoiding an estimated 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

During the early stages of the Athamas project, archaeological investigations uncovered burial monuments dating to Greece’s Archaic period. Archaeological authorities are currently overseeing excavation, documentation, and conservation activities to preserve the site’s historical significance while allowing the renewable energy project to proceed in accordance with regulatory and scientific requirements.

The agreement strengthens LONGi’s presence in Southern Europe and supports Greece’s renewable energy targets by deploying advanced back contact solar technology across large-scale utility projects. The collaboration also reinforces FARIA RENEWABLES’ strategy of developing utility-scale renewable energy infrastructure to accelerate the country’s clean energy transition.
