Loom Solar has introduced an integrated rooftop solar and battery storage solution aimed at helping households in Bihar reduce electricity costs under the state’s newly implemented Time-of-Day (ToD) tariff structure for smart prepaid meter consumers.

The initiative comes as the Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission (BERC) rolls out ToD pricing for more than 8.7 million smart prepaid meter households across the state. Under the revised tariff mechanism, electricity consumed between 9 AM and 5 PM is charged at 20% below standard rates, while power usage between 5 PM and 11 PM attracts a 10% premium. Electricity consumed during the off-peak period from 11 PM to 9 AM is billed at ₹7.42 per unit, making it the most economical period for grid-based charging.

To address these tariff changes, Loom Solar has deployed its Fusion Hybrid Inverter integrated with the CAML LiFePO4 Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The system is designed to automatically optimize electricity consumption by storing power generated from rooftop solar installations during the day and supplying stored energy during high-tariff evening hours.

The company stated that the Fusion Hybrid Inverter includes a Time of Use (ToU) scheduling feature, enabling residential, commercial, industrial, and utility-scale users to automate battery charging and discharging cycles based on BERC’s tariff schedule. The system can also charge batteries from the grid during low-cost off-peak hours and discharge electricity during peak pricing periods without manual intervention.

According to Loom Solar, households shifting approximately five units of evening electricity consumption to stored solar power could save up to ₹1,500 per month. Even when batteries are charged using cheaper off-peak grid electricity rather than solar energy, monthly savings of around ₹330 are achievable.

Commenting on the development, Amod Anand, Co-Founder and Director of Loom Solar, said Bihar’s ToD tariff structure presents an opportunity for consumers to reduce electricity costs through intelligent energy management technologies.

Loom Solar’s CAML battery system uses LiFePO4 chemistry and is rated for approximately 6,000 charge cycles at 80% depth of discharge, offering an estimated operational lifespan of 10 to 15 years. The battery system also carries an IP65 protection rating to support reliable performance in high-temperature and humid weather conditions.

The company stated that its BESS product portfolio ranges from 1 kWh residential systems to 5 MWh utility-scale energy storage solutions, positioning the company to serve residential, commercial, industrial, and utility-scale energy storage applications.

Loom Solar also confirmed that its rooftop solar and battery storage systems are eligible under the Government of India’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which offers subsidies of up to ₹78,000 for qualifying rooftop solar installations. The company estimates that, with government subsidies, households can recover the additional investment required for hybrid solar and storage systems within three to four years.
