In a strategic move to realign its business focus, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar has announced the divestment of its stake in the Sharjah Waste-to-Energy plant to Tadweer Group, a leading player in sustainable waste management. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions.

The handover will see Tadweer Group joining forces with BEEAH Group as joint venture partners in Emirates Waste-to-Energy Company, which owns and operates the pioneering Sharjah Waste-to-Energy facility — the Middle East’s first commercial-scale plant of its kind, inaugurated in 2022.

The divestment reflects Masdar’s continued commitment to scaling up its clean energy portfolio, while allowing Tadweer Group to concentrate on expanding its domestic operations and international footprint in sustainable waste transformation.

“This project has had a significant impact on the UAE’s sustainability landscape,” said Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar. “We thank BEEAH for their invaluable partnership and are confident that Tadweer and BEEAH will continue to advance the project with strategic vision and leadership.”

Following the acquisition, Tadweer Group and BEEAH will collaborate to enhance the plant’s operational capacity. Plans are underway to double the plant’s power generation from 30 MW to 60 MW and significantly expand its processing capacity for hard-to-recycle waste—advancing efforts to reduce landfill dependency and carbon emissions.

“Acquiring this high-performing asset strengthens our capabilities in waste-to-energy and supports the UAE’s goal of becoming a global leader in sustainable resource management,” said Ali Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and CEO of Tadweer Group.

Echoing this sentiment, Khaled Al Huraimel, Group CEO of BEEAH Group, noted, “This transition marks a new era of innovation and expansion in waste-to-energy. We are grateful to Masdar for their contributions and look forward to continued progress with Tadweer.”

The agreement aligns with the UAE’s broader sustainability and clean energy objectives, reinforcing the country’s leadership role in the global energy transition. The Emirates Waste-to-Energy joint venture will remain central to these efforts, with further projects anticipated in the future.
