Industrial gas company Messer is stepping up the digital transformation of its Brazilian operations through a partnership with IT and network services provider NEC, as it advances its ‘Industry 4.0’ strategy.
The collaboration is designed to create smarter, more connected and automated production facilities by strengthening the digital infrastructure underpinning Messer’s plants.
Over the past three years, NEC has helped modernise the company’s industrial network, expand Wi-Fi coverage and improve cybersecurity across its Brazilian operations, laying the foundations for increased automation and data-driven decision making.
The latest work includes upgrades at Messer’s Jundiaí facility in São Paulo, its largest operation in Brazil.
Among the applications enabled is Balcão, a digital platform that tracks gas cylinders from production through to customer delivery, replacing paper-based records and reducing the risk of errors or misplaced cylinders while improving operational efficiency.
The project also includes enhanced network access controls based on Zero Trust security principles, helping protect connected industrial systems as Messer expands the use of digital tools across its sites.
“With the advancement of process digitalisation and the growing use of applications, connectivity has become a critical factor for our operations,” said Sandra Deoti, Head of IT at Messer.
The initiative reflects a broader push across the Messer Group to digitise manufacturing, logistics and production management.
Through its Messer Cutting Systems division, the company has been developing ‘Industry 4.0’ software and automation tools designed to improve cost control, material traceability and resource efficiency.
Its digital portfolio includes OmniWin and OmniBevel for work preparation, alongside the OmniFab Suite, which integrates cutting machines with wider business and production processes, providing workers with real-time production data, scheduling, inventory optimisation and performance monitoring.
