MGEN Secures Triple ISO Certifications Across Renewable and Thermal Power Operations

Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) has secured internationally recognized ISO certifications across its renewable and thermal power businesses, reinforcing its commitment to quality management, environmental stewardship, and occupational health and safety across its generation portfolio.

The certifications cover ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management Systems, ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management Systems, and ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.

According to MGEN, the certifications reflect the company’s efforts to strengthen governance as it expands both its renewable and thermal power operations.

“These certifications show how MGEN is strengthening governance across its generation portfolio. As we grow both our renewable and thermal businesses, we are making sure that our assets are operated under clear, consistent, and internationally recognized standards,” said Emmanuel V. Rubio, President and CEO of MGEN.

MGEN’s renewable energy arm, MGEN Renewable Energy, Inc. (MGEN Renewables), received Triple ISO Certification from TÜV SÜD Philippines covering its corporate headquarters and six solar power plants located in Nueva Ecija, Rizal, Bulacan, Isabela, Batangas, and Tarlac. The certification establishes a unified management framework for quality, environmental performance, and workplace safety across the company’s geographically distributed solar portfolio.

Dennis B. Jordan, President and CEO of MGEN Renewables, said the certification confirms that both its corporate and plant teams operate under a common management system with consistent standards for quality, environmental management, and occupational health and safety.

Meanwhile, MGEN’s thermal power business renewed its certifications across ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018. The recertified entities include Cebu Energy Development Corporation (CEDC), Toledo Power Co. (TPC), Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC), and Panay Power Corporation (PPC), while MGEN Thermal Energy, Inc. renewed its ISO 9001:2015 certification.

The certifications cover the company’s baseload thermal power plants serving key load centres in Cebu, Iloilo, and other parts of the Visayas, supporting reliable electricity supply to communities, businesses, and the grid.

According to the company, the renewed certifications also support MGEN Thermal’s ongoing Best-in-Class programme, which focuses on strengthening operational discipline through standardized systems for operations, process management, supply chain, capital planning, and workforce development.

“For MGEN Thermal, these recertifications reflect the discipline required to operate facilities that support key load centres in the Visayas. Maintaining these standards helps ensure that we continue to operate responsibly and consistently,” said Arnel L. Santos, President and CEO of MGEN Thermal.

MGEN said the certifications across its renewable and thermal businesses demonstrate its commitment to aligning operations with internationally recognized management standards while supporting the Philippines’ growing demand for reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity.
