Mixed Market On April 28: Green Energy And EV Stocks Shine Despite Sensex, Nifty Decline

The Green Energy Index chart shows steady gains across renewable energy sectors in 2024.

The Indian stock market witnessed a mixed session on April 28, 2026, with benchmark indices closing in the red even as select green energy and mobility stocks delivered positive returns. The S&P BSE Sensex ended the day at 76,886.91, declining by 0.54%, while the Nifty 50 slipped 0.52% to close at 23,968.45. The overall mood remained cautious, but sector-specific buying helped limit deeper losses.

In the green energy segment, performance remained volatile with a mix of sharp gains and declines. Insolation Energy emerged as one of the top gainers, rising 6.33% to close at 157.35. Websol Energy System also attracted strong buying interest, gaining 5% and ending near its upper circuit at 122.31. Among larger companies, Adani Green Energy recorded a steady increase of 1.69%, while Tata Power climbed 1.87%. Reliance Industries supported the broader energy ecosystem with a near 2% gain, closing at 1,393.00.

On the other hand, some stocks in the same space faced selling pressure. NTPC Green Energy declined 2.35% to settle at 116.12. Praj Industries also slipped 2.21%. Larsen & Toubro remained largely flat, ending slightly lower by 0.16% in a quiet trading session.

The electric mobility and energy storage segments showed resilience and continued investor interest. Olectra Greentech rose sharply by 4.59% to 1,291.35. Battery makers Amara Raja Energy & Mobility and Exide Industries gained 2.27% and 1.23% respectively, indicating steady confidence in electric vehicle and storage-related opportunities.

In the traditional energy space, performance was mixed. JSW Energy posted a gain of 1.45%, while GAIL and Indian Oil Corporation remained mostly flat or slightly negative. Indian Energy Exchange and Borosil Renewables saw minor declines, reflecting the broader market’s cautious sentiment.

Overall, despite a slight decline in headline indices, selective buying in solar, battery, and electric mobility stocks stood out. The session highlighted that investor interest in clean energy and emerging technologies continues to remain strong even during periods of broader market weakness.
