The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has issued a notification on August 5, 2025, regarding the implementation timeline for certain solar products under the Solar Systems, Devices and Components Goods Order, 2025. This order was originally issued on January 27, 2025, through S.O. 492 (E), in supersession of the earlier Solar Photovoltaics, Systems, Devices and Components Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2017, except for actions already taken under it. The 2025 order covered five products listed in its table and was scheduled to come into effect after one hundred and eighty days from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.

The Ministry has now announced an extension for the implementation of the order for Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) inverters with a capacity of more than 200 kW, which are listed as items 4 and 5 in the order. This extension has been granted due to the limited availability of testing facilities and to provide manufacturers more time for compliance. As per the new timeline, the implementation for these products will now be effective from June 30, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

During this extended period, compliance will be allowed based on self-certification, subject to specific conditions. Manufacturers must hold valid International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) certificates that correspond to the applicable Indian Standards. For item number 4, the applicable standards are IS 16221 (Part 2): 2015 / IEC 62109-2: 2011 and IS/IEC 61683: 1999. For item number 5, the required standards are IS 16221 (Part 2): 2015 / IEC 62109-2: 2011, IS 16169: 2019 / IEC 62116: 2014, and IS 17980: 2022 / IEC 62891: 2020. Additionally, test reports from accredited laboratories must be available for the smooth implementation of the order.

This decision aims to ensure that manufacturers have adequate time and resources to meet the standards while maintaining the quality and safety of high-capacity solar inverters in the Indian market.
