Monjasa starts first LNG bunkering in Middle East

Monjasa has undertaken LNG bunkering in Dubai this month, claiming it is a first for the UAE and Middle East.

It delivered around 3,000 cbm of LNG to three cryogenic tanks in the 185,000GT Costa Smeralda at Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal B. With one complete LNG tank filling, the cruise liner can be powered for at least 2.5 weeks.

Monjasa chartered the LBV, Green Zeebrugge (5,000 cbm) for the operations, with official bunkering permits issued by the Dubai Maritime Authority & Dubai Ports Authority.

The ship is operating on its winter season until the end of February, offering one-week cruises from Dubai to Muscat (Oman), Doha (Qatar) and Abu Dhabi, before sailing onto the Mediterranean for European and African schedules in the spring.
