NTPC Commissions 15 MW Bhilai Floating Solar Power Station In Chhattisgarh

NTPC Limited has announced the successful commissioning and commercial operation of its 15 MW Bhilai Floating Solar Power Station. The company shared the information through a regulatory filing submitted to the BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India Limited. The filing was signed by Ritu Arora, Secretary and Compliance Officer of NTPC, on June 30, 2026.

The project has been developed by NTPC-SAIL Power Company Limited (NSPCL), a joint venture between NTPC Limited and SAIL. According to the filing, the final phase of the project included the commissioning of the third and last module, known as Island-2. This module has a total capacity of 5 MW, consisting of two units of 2.5 MW each. It was successfully commissioned on June 24, 2026.

With the completion of the final module, the entire 15 MW Bhilai Floating Solar Power Station has become fully operational for commercial use with effect from June 24, 2026.

The commissioning of the project has also increased NTPC Group’s overall power generation capacity. Following the addition of the floating solar plant, the group’s total installed capacity has reached 90,904 MW, while its total commercial capacity has increased to 89,824 MW.

The floating solar power station reflects NTPC’s continued focus on expanding its renewable energy portfolio through strategic partnerships such as NSPCL. Floating solar projects make use of water bodies for power generation, reducing the need for land while also helping to reduce water evaporation. This makes them an efficient and sustainable clean energy solution.

The company issued the regulatory disclosure from its Corporate Centre in New Delhi under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, ensuring timely disclosure and transparency for investors and other stakeholders.
