Biocommodity production business Perpetual Next USA is to develop three biomass-to-biomethanol production facilities in the southeast of the US, with development set to begin this year.
Each of the sites will be designed to produce around one million tonnes of sustainably sourced biomass feedstock each year.
The three plants will follow Perpetual Next’s “biomethanol blueprint,” which combines torrefaction, gasification, and methanol synthesis. The design supports repeatable deployment and scaling to commercial production.
Torrefaction dries and stabilises biomass, gasification converts it into synthesis gas, and methanol synthesis turns that gas into methanol.
