Photon Energy N.V. has announced the successful energisation and commissioning of the 20.8 MWp Pukenui Solar Farm in New Zealand’s Far North region. The project was co-developed by Aquila Clean Energy APAC and Far North Solar Farm (FNSF), with Photon Energy delivering full engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services and securing a two-year operations and maintenance (O&M) contract.

“We are proud to see the Pukenui Solar Farm energised and contributing to New Zealand’s renewable energy future,” said Georg Hotar, CEO of Photon Energy Group. He added that completing the project without any major incidents reflects the professionalism and dedication of the teams involved.

The solar farm features 35,000 high-efficiency PV modules and is connected to the Top Energy network, supporting the region’s growing demand for clean electricity. Development and construction were carried out in close collaboration with local Māori communities, businesses, and project partners.

The commissioning of Pukenui marks Photon Energy’s first utility-scale project in New Zealand and represents an early milestone for both Aquila Clean Energy and FNSF in the local market. Photon Energy will continue to support the site through ongoing O&M services.

The milestone follows Photon Energy’s recent EPC and O&M contract signing for a 38 MW solar power plant in Romania with Hyperion, a leading Portuguese renewable energy developer.
