PM Modi Laid Foundation for India’s First Green Hydrogen Hub in Andhra Pradesh

In a landmark step towards green energy and sustainability, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) Green Hydrogen Hub Project at Pudimadaka near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on January 8.

Jointly developed by NGEL, the renewable arm of NTPC Ltd., and the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP), this initiative is India’s first Green Hydrogen Hub under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The project aims to establish 20 GW of renewable energy capacity, 1500 TPD of green hydrogen, and 7500 TPD of green hydrogen derivatives, such as green methanol, green urea, and sustainable aviation fuel. With an investment of approximately ₹1,85,000 crore, it will significantly boost employment opportunities and help India achieve its 500 GW non-fossil energy capacity target by 2030.

Spread across 1600 acres, the Pudimadaka Green Hydrogen Hub will house a manufacturing facility, green chemical zone, storage terminal, port infrastructure, 7 GW substation, an 80 MLD desalination plant, and other facilities. The project will not only transform Andhra Pradesh into a global green energy leader but also play a pivotal role in India’s decarbonization journey and Net Zero ambitions. NGEL is also exploring similar partnerships with other state governments, including a 25 GW renewable energy collaboration with Rajasthan.
