Powering the Future: Jinko Solar’s ESS Expansion in MENA & West Africa – Mahmoud Abuwardeh, ESS Sales Manager For Middle East & GCC and Baba Dieye, ESS West Africa Sales manager

Q: How has Jinko ESS expanded its portfolio to address the growing demand for renewable energy in the MENA region?

Good afternoon! At Jinko Solar, we’ve always had a vision to be more than just a solar company—we aim to be a complete energy solutions provider. That’s why we started working on energy storage solutions back in 2021. By 2022, we had already launched and shipped our commercial and industrial (C&I) and utility-scale products. Fast forward to today, in 2025, we have successfully shipped over 3 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy storage worldwide.

To match the increasing demand, we’ve also expanded our production capacity significantly. In 2025, we’ve grown from 12 GWh to 24 GWh to cater to the market’s evolving needs.

The MENA market is quite diverse, and we’ve strategically designed our portfolio to serve three key segments:

Residential – Our energy storage solutions range from 3.5 kW to 20 kW, making solar power more accessible for households.

  • Commercial & Industrial (C&I) – We offer liquid-cooled energy storage solutions, with power conversion systems (PCS) from 50 kW up to 1 GWh. These solutions enhance the efficiency of industrial applications.
  • Utility-Scale – Our Santa series has been a game-changer. We started with a 3.44 MWh system and have now scaled up to 5 MWh per unit, with plans for 6 MWh per 20-ft container in the coming year.
  • Beyond just the hardware, we’ve heavily invested in R&D to ensure full in-house production. We manufacture our own battery cells, battery management systems (BMS), and energy management systems (EMS), and by 2025, we’re even looking to bring PCS production in-house as well.

Ultimately, our goal is to provide reliable, scalable, and efficient energy storage solutions that drive the renewable energy transition in MENA.

Q: What advancements in energy storage solutions is Jinko Solar bringing to the region to complement its solar PV systems?

Great question! As you know, one of the biggest challenges with solar power is that it’s inherently intermittent—the sun doesn’t shine 24/7. That’s where energy storage solutions come in. At Jinko Solar, we are committed to enhancing grid stability and ensuring a reliable renewable energy supply across West Africa.

Our advanced energy storage solutions work hand-in-hand with our solar PV systems by storing excess energy generated during peak sunlight hours and making it available when demand is high or when solar generation is low. This significantly boosts the efficiency and reliability of solar installations.

We offer solutions tailored to all market segments, from residential storage units to large-scale projects designed to power industries and even entire communities. In West Africa, these solutions are not just about improving energy efficiency—they are also about providing access to electricity in remote areas where traditional grid infrastructure is lacking. At Jinko, we’re constantly innovating to maximize the potential of solar energy and ensure that it serves the needs of governments, businesses, and individual consumers alike. Our goal is to contribute meaningfully to the region’s energy transition and expand renewable energy adoption across Africa.
