Europe recorded modest growth in biogas and biomethane production last year with volumes totalling 22 bcm compared with 21.7 bcm in 2023.
Updates on volumes and market trends were contained in the European Biogas Association’s (EBA) 15th edition of its Statistical Report. The 2024–2025 dataset underscores the strategic importance of biogases for Europe’s energy independence and defossilisation pathway.
But the largely static market highlights “persistent regulatory uncertainty” and administrative burdens which are slowing the sector’s growth at a decisive moment, according to the EBA.
