SANY Silicon Energy achieved a major breakthrough on December 29th in the “Solar + Storage + Diesel” microgrid sector by launching the Zambia Ruida Mining Microgrid Power Project. This project stands out as Africa’s largest hybrid microgrid designed specifically for mining operations, showcasing SANY’s dedication to advancing green energy and sustainable development in the region.

The project features a 13 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) system, a 39 MWh battery energy storage system, and a diesel generator for backup power. Together, these components create a state-of-the-art microgrid that integrates solar, storage, and diesel technologies. The system is designed to provide reliable power for mining operations, promoting energy independence, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources, and enhancing efficiency and sustainability.

True to “SANY Speed,” the project moved from signing the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to commissioning in just four months. Despite challenges such as Zambia’s rugged terrain, harsh weather conditions, and logistical hurdles due to limited infrastructure, the team demonstrated exceptional adaptability and efficiency to bring the project to life. The launch of this project marks an important step in SANY’s efforts to promote environmentally friendly mining practices in Africa.

It establishes a strong foundation for the continent’s shift toward green energy and highlights SANY’s commitment to supporting sustainable energy solutions worldwide. With the knowledge and technology gained from this project, SANY is focused on “Illuminating Africa” at “SANY Speed.” By accelerating the rollout of more green energy initiatives, SANY aims to lead the way in renewable energy and bring Chinese innovation to the global energy transformation.
