SCG Leads Green Innovation in Construction at CECI 2024 Annual Meeting

SCG Smart Living and SCG Cement and Green Solutions join forces with 38 leading companies to raise the standard of the construction industry to be green from design to sustainable development at the 2nd Conference of the Circular Economy in Construction Industry (CECI) 2024

Mr. Wiroj Rattanachaisit, CEO of SCG Smart Living and Chairman of the Circular Economy in Construction Industry (CECI) Cooperative, along with 38 companies in the network, attended the 2nd Annual Meeting 2024 at SCG Headquarters, Bang Sue, to jointly find ways to elevate the construction industry with green innovation, use materials efficiently according to the circular economy approach, and reduce carbon for a sustainable world. Experts in environmentally friendly building design were also invited to share knowledge about green building design towards Net Zero.

Mr. Wirot said, “SCG recognizes the importance of construction that aims for Net Zero in line with the Inclusive Green Growth approach. Therefore, we initiated the establishment of the CECI Group to exchange knowledge and develop approaches in this area together with 38 leading organizations in the construction industry continuously since 2018 to elevate the Thai construction industry to grow sustainably according to the circular economy principle in a tangible way by developing Smart Design with Green Innovation that cares about the impact on the environment and uses resources efficiently, creating participation in reducing carbon with green innovation.”

Mr. Wirot Rattanachaisit, Chief Executive Officer, SCG Smart Living

This conference was honored by 2 experts in green building design that are friendly to the environment, namely Assoc. Prof. Dr. Darunee Jarimit, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Thammasat University, who gave a lecture on building design towards Net Zero, which provided knowledge about the important role of the design process in sustainability in construction projects, the amount of embedded carbon in buildings (Embodied Carbon) and ways to reduce embedded carbon from the construction process, including the application of building design concepts that aim for Net Zero at the city and community level.

In addition, Dr. Wikrom Laowisutchai, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University, also shared knowledge about Modular Construction by citing Hong Kong as an example, which is popular for modular construction, along with the initial construction problems and solutions, as well as opportunities and further development of Modular Construction.

SCG operates its business in line with the Inclusive Green Growth approach, emphasizing business growth alongside a sustainable world. One of these is the application of the Circular Economy concept to create collaboration with leading partners in the construction industry, including real estate development companies, architectural and construction consulting companies, manufacturing companies, construction contractors, and construction waste management companies that emphasize the importance of the management of construction waste and are interested in applying the Circular Economy to their business operations.

From the initial 12 members to the current 38 members, there have been many concrete projects that have used innovations to help manage waste materials from the construction process for reuse, such as the use of BIM innovation, both the King Bridge Tower pilot project and the CECI Group construction projects, which have been carried out together from the design process, procurement, and construction steps, using BIM as a design tool to reduce resource usage, waste at the construction site, and time. SCG has been a consultant since the creation of the Circular Economy Model, which was adapted from Roland Berger’s “10 Circular Business Models for More Sustainable Construction,” as well as providing advice on applying the principles of the Circular Economy to various projects.
