Sungrow’s C&I BESS PowerStack Now Powers Poultry Farm In The Netherlands With Clean Energy

Sungrow, a global provider of PV inverters and energy storage systems, has supplied its commercial and industrial battery energy storage solution, PowerStack, to Poultry Farm Quirijnen located in Lage Mierde, the Netherlands. This installation is aimed at optimizing the farm’s energy usage, reducing operational costs, and enhancing the value of its existing solar power system.

The project includes four units of the PowerStack system, which together provide 916 kWh of storage capacity and 440 kW of power output. Poultry Farm Quirijnen consumes approximately 100 MWh of electricity annually, while its solar installation generates about 750 MWh per year. With this significant surplus in solar production, the energy storage system allows the farm to store excess energy for use when needed and to discharge power when market prices are higher, rather than only relying on self-consumption.

Through this solution, the farm has also begun participating in the imbalance market, where it can store electricity during periods of low prices and supply it to the grid when prices peak. This approach not only creates a new revenue stream but also contributes to grid stability and a more balanced energy system. The project showcases a practical and forward-thinking strategy in energy management, where flexibility and efficiency go hand in hand.

Ward Schoenmakers, the Poultry Farmer, said, “We have been looking for innovative solutions, such as an energy storage system.”

Kevin Roks, owner of Solar Crew, stated, “We chose the PowerStack for this project because, in terms of specifications, it’s a very high-quality product. It has a high capacity and a high-power output. We have been working with Sungrow for years. That’s because it is an easy-to-install product, but mainly because of its quality. And that makes Sungrow a reliable partner.”

“Sungrow sees the future of energy storage in the business market as essential for the energy transition. We will continue to innovate to meet diverse business requirements,” commented Menduh Cakmak, Field Service Engineer Sungrow.

The PowerStack system installed at the farm is equipped with a power conversion system (PCS) and four batteries, each offering a usable capacity of 225 kWh. One of its key features is the ability to provide an uninterrupted power supply during outages, ensuring that business operations continue without disruption. The system also uses advanced liquid-cooling technology, which maintains a battery cell temperature difference of no more than 2.5 degrees Celsius. This ensures improved efficiency, greater safety, and long-term system reliability.

The installation was carried out by Solar Crew, a company active in the solar energy sector since 2012 and more recently focused on energy storage solutions. The integration of Sungrow’s PowerStack into this hybrid solar and storage setup marks a significant advancement for the farm, enabling it to transition from a traditional energy consumer to a more dynamic, energy-resilient operation that supports broader sustainability goals.
