SWISS commits to buying Synhelion synthetic SAF

Swiss International Air Lines has committed to purchasing at least 200 tonnes per year of synthetic sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced by Swiss clean-tech company Synhelion, as part of a new agreement aimed at supporting the scale-up of synthetic aviation fuels.

The commitment forms part of a wider memorandum of understanding between SWISS and logistics group Kuehne+Nagel, under which the partners will jointly support the development and commercialisation of Synhelion’s synthetic SAF. 

SWISS will resell a portion of the fuel to Kuehne+Nagel for use in airfreight operations.

From 2027, Kuehne+Nagel will use Synhelion’s SAF for a five-year period for air cargo transported with SWISS subsidiary Swiss WorldCargo.
