Tandem PV Strengthens Leadership, Taps Clemens Hofbauer As Vice President Of Manufacturers To Scale U.S. Production Of Perovskite Solar Panels

Tandem PV, a company at the forefront of perovskite solar technology, has announced the appointment of Clemens Hofbauer as its new Vice President of Manufacturing. This move comes as the company prepares to ramp up commercial production of its advanced high-efficiency tandem solar panels, following the successful closure of its $50 million Series A funding round. Mr. Hofbauer brings over 25 years of experience in solar and battery manufacturing, having held key leadership positions across several notable companies in the renewable energy sector.

His previous roles include General Manager of SunPower’s solar module facility in Hillsboro, Oregon, and senior positions at SolarWorld, Silicor Materials, and Sila Nanotechnologies. Throughout his career, he has managed large-scale operations in countries including the United States, Germany, Sweden, and Canada. Notably, he played a central role in the development of a $1 billion solar silicon production facility in Iceland.

Scott Wharton, Chief Executive Officer of Tandem PV, “Clemens brings a highly distinctive background that spans U.S. manufacturing, silicon solar production, and thin-film solar — a rare combination that makes him exceptionally well-suited to lead our manufacturing efforts.”

Clemens Hofbauer, statement, “I’m thrilled to join Tandem PV at such a pivotal moment, not just for the company, but for the future of American solar manufacturing. Building out domestic production for this next-generation solar technology is an exciting opportunity to help strengthen U.S. leadership in clean energy.”

Tandem PV is currently focused on building its manufacturing capabilities to support the commercialization of its tandem solar panels, which integrate thin-film perovskite with traditional silicon technology. This combination enables the panels to generate up to 30% more power compared to conventional models. By establishing a large-scale production base in the United States, the company aims to reduce manufacturing costs, ensure faster delivery times, and contribute to revitalizing domestic clean energy manufacturing.

The company’s recent recognition includes being named one of TIME Magazine’s Top GreenTech Companies of 2025 and being listed on Congruent Ventures’ “50 by 2050” ranking of leading climate tech startups. These milestones highlight Tandem PV’s growing role in advancing clean energy technologies and supporting the global transition to more efficient and sustainable power solutions.
