Texas A&M University (TAMU) has broken ground on a new semiconductor centre to support innovation and manufacturing.

The Semiconductor Institute, expected to be completed in 2028, will focus on semiconductor research and development.

TAMU says the facility will help train university students, promote economic growth, and boost national security.

The project has been supported with $113.7m from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation (TSI) account and $48.1m from the Permanent University Fund (PUF).
